Elegant Home of the Month: Rec Room Reinvented

Welcome to Elegant Home of the Month, a new feature where we’ll give you a little tour of some of our favorite projects.

We have definitely noticed a shift in recent years to projects that include spaces for activities that bring the family together, and this project has plenty of opportunities for family togetherness! We love the contemporary and youthful vibe of the interiors that result in a modernized, luxurious take on the 1970′s rec room.

We added a garage to the side of the house that can be converted into an indoor basketball court. NCAA Championship, here we come!

The open-air space flows into a modern version of the traditional potting room.

The overall design of the lower level was a challenge because of site restrictions. We had to design within a narrow area, so we created a continuous chain of spaces that relate to each other physically and visually. The new interior space has a bar, a home theater, a lounge, a billiard room with a bunk area, an exercise room, and a spa.

The contemporary detailing of the bar includes floating shelves with integral lighting and a floating quartz bar ledge. The billiard room has built in bunk beds for the children’s frequent sleepovers, and the adjacent game room is perfect for late night gaming and family movie nights. A ping pong table and lounge seating are fun features for large parties.

The spa, which has a steam shower and an indoor cold plunge/hot tub, is connected to the exercise room on the far end of the space.

An outdoor space with a terrace, hot tub, and waterfall feature completes this ultimate entertainment space.
